What drives the cost more than the hole size

The part that actually varies job to job is the texture and paint match, not the patch itself -- a small hole on a wall with a distinctive knockdown or orange-peel texture can cost more to blend invisibly than a larger hole on a smooth wall. Central Florida's humidity also matters: a stain on drywall is often a moisture signal from a roof, window or flashing leak, and patching over the stain without finding the source means the same repair again within a season.

If the drywall damage traces back to a leak, the leak itself may be a job for a roofer or the source may need diagnosis beyond general handyman scope -- we will say so rather than just patch over it.
